Deep in the Red River Valley, where the sugar beets grow taller than men and winter never really ends, something stirs beneath the frozen fields. They used to call him Mr. Sugar Beet. Now he’s Sugarbeast. He’s sweet. He’s enormous. And he’s coming to the harvest party with a pitchfork and an appetite.
Who is Sugarbeast? Sugarbeast is the LVCRFT alter ego of Mike Warner, a retired North Dakota sugar beet farmer known as “Mr. Sugar Beet” and the father of LVCRFT co-founder MNDR. In 1989 he wrote and recorded “North Dakota Celebrate (Jewel of the Prairie)” for the state’s centennial. Released in 2024 under the name Sugar Beat, it landed on Apple Music’s “New in Americana” playlist.
