Half-O-Ween: Halfway to Halloween

Half-O-Ween (also spelled Halfoween) is Halloween’s spring twin: April 30 to May 1, exactly six months from October 31. It’s the day Halloween people stop pretending to care about spring. And it has an anthem: LVCRFT’s “Halfway There (Half-O-Ween).”

When is Halfway to Halloween?

Both answers are right. April 30 is six calendar months after Halloween (there’s no April 31). May 1 is the true midpoint, 182.5 days from October 31. So celebrate April 30 into May 1. Next up: Friday, April 30 to Saturday, May 1, 2027.

Why it’s spookier than you think

Half-O-Ween lands right on two old witchy holidays: Walpurgis Night (April 30), when European folklore says witches gather and bonfires burn, and Beltane (May 1), the Celtic fire festival opposite Samhain on the wheel of the year. Halloween’s spring twin has deep roots.

The Half-O-Ween anthem: “Halfway There”

LVCRFT wrote the holiday its theme song. “Halfway There (Half-O-Ween)” is a dancefloor killer produced by Norman Crates with a gang of ghoulish vocals from Scary Ana Grande, Evil McQueen, DeepKutz, DejaVudu and a cameo from Ghost M’lone. The music video stars SAINT, winner of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Resurrection, in full glam-gore.

In 2022 we handed the stems to the world. Producers everywhere remixed “Halfway There,” judged by Evil McQueen, Yahoo Music’s Lyndsey Parker, Midsummer Scream’s David Markland and HorrorBuzz’s Norman Gidney. The winners, EhsKei (grand prize), Joseph and Amnesia Jones, landed on Halfway There: The Half-O-Ween EP, plus a sped-up version that later appeared on the Haute As Hell EP.
